Tri Training Harder COVID-19 Statement

COVID-19 is here and it looks likely to stay for the foreseeable, uncertain future.

As a result of medical guidance summarised through Coach Alan’s article on training and the immunity, all coaches are ensuring the athletes are remaining safe through this period. This means that training intensity as been reduced and we are deliberately avoiding extensively stressing the cardiovascular system. In brief, now is the time to maintain fitness. Our approach within Tri Training Harder has been to switch our coached athletes’ focus to what they ‘can’ achieve during this unusual period whilst prioritising their health and immunity. To date, we have had a lot of success, with many athletes identifying new strengths and improving the areas they had usually neglected.

We have had to make the tough decision to cancel all of our 2020 training camps until further notice and we will not be taking any more bookings for 2020 training camps until we have more clarity on when travel bans are being lifted in both the UK and Portugal. Our hope is that we will be able to recommence our 2020 training camp season but at the moment there is no way of forecasting when this will be. As soon as we have more information we will let all of our community know! As you can imagine, it has been a tough time trying to sort out the safety of our clients and staff, the fallout from the impact of COVID-19 and trying to determine the future viability of Tri Training Harder as a business. We are continually acting in line with the information that both the UK and Portuguese authorities are giving us. Of course, this is an evolving situation and the information is changing daily.

Regarding our current training camp bookings, we have worked very hard with our suppliers, advisors and staff to try and come to a solution that works for everyone involved, along with allowing Tri Training Harder as a business to continue functioning. We believe in the strength of our community, and we look forward to welcoming you to one of our camps when the world has recovered from this disruption!

As a coaching company we have had to adapt to the current situation and we are turning our attention to building our online community. All of our coached athletes have been participating in online Zwift rides, virtual stretching sessions and even online Q&A and meet-ups with our coaches. It has been great to see how everyone can come together and share the common interest of triathlon in a difficult time such as the one we are living through now.

Outside of our immediate community, we are also working with the Triathlon Industry Association to pave the way for a renewed, sustainable industry and are liaising with the event organisers, suppliers, media and governing bodies to assist where possible. As always, we are struck by the strength of our collective passion for the sport.

Please let us know if you have any questions at all.
